Dale Allen Bliss
Dale Allen Bliss, 75, of Bridgewater, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
He was born on November 25, 1950, son of Larry D. Bliss and Evelyn (Schoonover) Caward. Dale grew up on the family farm in the western New York, in the small township of Troupsburg. He loved to tell stories of his childhood memories of working the farm with his older brother Doug, milking cows, hunting, and driving farm tractors.
Dale went on to study at Clarkson University, earning a B.S. of Chemical Engineering. He then completed a successful career of 45 plus years in engineering. Along the way in his career, he earned a MBA at the University of New Haven, and shifted to Senior Project Management in the latter half of his career.
Dale was united in marriage to Patricia (McCuin) Bliss, who survives. They met while Dale was studying engineering and were married for 55 years. Together they raised their two children, and Dale actively supported them through school activities, their military service, and establishing their own families.
Dale's golden retirement years shifted his focus to home and yard work in Penn Yan, NY. He absolutely loved using his John Deere tractor to mow their yard, plow snow, till the garden, and whatever other reason he could invent for using it. During this time period, he also focused on his personal faith journey and study of the Bible, and he would often ask deep theological questions to his Pastor, looking for life solutions like an Engineer. Dale loved and supported his entire family and was an avid reader his entire life. He thoroughly enjoyed the additions of his grandchildren, and most recently his great-children.
Dale is survived by two children, Michael (Cheria) Bliss and Karen (Kurt) Bliss; five grandchildren, Cheyennee (Jeremy) Parks, Tiyler Bliss, Brandon (Jessalyn) Bliss, Elise Gunderson, and Nathan Gunderson; three great-grandchildren, Mattie Parks, Evan Parks, Beau Monte Bliss; brother, Larry (Manuela) Bliss; three sisters, Joann Detwiler, Carol Streeter, Mary (Bruce) Wallman; two sister-in-laws, Ellen Dello Stritto and Nancy (Robert) Lewis; one brother-in-law, Robert (Debbie) McCuin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Bliss and a sister, Irene Kearney.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at Johnson Funeral & Cremation Service, Bridgewater Chapel with Pastor Edward Rice officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the start of the service.
