Sheldon Neil Propst
Sheldon Neil Propst, 82, of Rockingham, passed away on September 12, 2026 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born on November 1, 1943 in Moyers, WV, and was a son of the late Fred and Myrtle (Mitchell) Propst.
Sheldon was a working man. He retired from the US Postal Services after 43 years of service. He previously worked at the Farm Bureau and was a manager at Bridgewater IGA. He spent his final working days mowing and landscaping, which he took a lot of pride in.
When he was not working, he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren's sporting events and other activities, hunting with his family, putting puzzles together, going on many bus trips with his wife and friends, and watching his Baltimore Orioles & Ravens.
He was an active member at Bridgewater Church of the Brethren for 60 years, where he served as a deacon for many years. He also helped with numerous other church activities and services.
Sheldon was united in marriage of 62 years, on March 7, 1964 to Betty Shay (Pitsenbarger) Propst, who survives him.
Mr. Propst is also survived by two sons, Greg Propst and partner Renee of Bridgewater, and Brad Propst and wife Megan of Penn Laird; brother, Jesse Carroll Propst of Franklin, WV; four grandchildren, Andrew Propst and fiancé Brittany, Brieanna Propst and partner Devin, Brycen Propst and partner Grace, and Shaley Propst; three step grandchildren, Natalie, Noah, and Eli. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he is proceeded in death by three sisters, Ida Mary Snyder, Marilyn Propst, and Velma Blandino; six brothers, Charles Linaburg, Gene Rader, Harley Propst, Stanley Propst, Arnold Propst, and Jerry Propst.
The Family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 PM on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Bridgewater.
A service celebrating Sheldon's life will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren. Burial will be private.
