Patricia “Patsy” Annette Fultz Groah, 86, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Augusta Health Shenandoah House in Fishersville. She was born on January 22, 1940, in Rockbridge County to the late Thomas Wilbourn, Sr. and Mary “Libby” Elizabeth Ramsey Fultz. She was a longtime and devoted member of Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church in Steeles Tavern. She had a special love for animals, especially her cats and horses, and truly enjoyed the simple pleasures of farm life. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling, working crossword puzzles, and reading. She also had a caring heart and spent many years as a caregiver, providing support to those in her care. She is survived by her son, Joey Scott Groah and his wife, Amy Gleason; her daughter, Robyn Paxton Thurston; her grandchildren, Jason, Justin, Josh and his wife Sam, Ashley, Dee Dee, Amber, Daniel, and Jonathan Thurston, and Luella Groah; and numerous great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her “perfect companion”, William Weatherford; her husband, Howard “Johnny” William Groah; her brother, Thomas Wilbourn Fultz, Jr.; and her first husband, Milton Paxton. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church in Steeles Tavern with Reverend Sarah Hill officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will immediately follow at Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Steeles Tavern. Memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA (P.O. Box 2014, Staunton, VA 24402) or Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah (P.O. Box 909, Fishersville, VA 22939).
