Nancy Jean (Strother) Moats

Nancy Jean (Strother) Moats, 88, of Mount Solon, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at her home.

She was born on December 8, 1937 and was a daughter of the late Rastus H. and Tessie (Crawford) Strother.

Nancy had worked for Mrs. Paul in New York, ShenMar, Bel Meade and Rocco, until she became a full time homemaker and baby sitter. She was a great cook, loved to clean and was a hard worker. She loved her family above everything else. She enjoyed watching her dogs and her 2 sheep (Pokey and Brownie.) Nancy was a great gardner, loved to can and enjoyed her flowers. She always put others ahead of herself.

Nancy was united in marriage on October 19, 1968 to Fred J. Moats.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her children, Jerome Strother (Dorothy Wells), Teresa Crawford & husband Nathaniel, Carla Daniels (Kenny Coles), Fred Moats (Jessica Grant), and Drema Cook & husband Ken; two sisters, Gloria Moats, and Karen Hall; grandchildren, Cassandra Miller, Denika Jones, Latisha Daniels, Courtney Daniels, Dana Brown, and Selena Moats (a very special granddaughter who was her pride and joy), and numerous great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth Strother and Griffin Strother.

A service celebrating Nancy's life will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Johnson Funeral & Cremation Service in Bridgewater with Fred Moats. Burial will follow at Greenwood-Ames Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 31, 2026 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Johnon Funeral & Cremation Service in Bridgewater.
