George Buckman

March 26, 1941 - July 20, 2026

George Francis Buckman, Sr., 85, of Wilmington, Delaware, who was residing in Staunton, Virginia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Monday, July 20, 2026 at Augusta Health in Fishersville, VA. He was born in New Castle, Delaware on March 26, 1941, a son of the late George and Vera (Hammond) Buckman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, David Buckman and two sisters, Edith Moore and Virginia Smallwood.

George worked in construction and was a member of Full Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle in Elkton.

He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend who truly never met a stranger. His kind heart, warm smile, and goofy sense of humor made everyone feel welcomed. He was always quick with a smile and a silly face, bringing laughter wherever he went.

An avid fisherman and hunter, he found joy and peace in the outdoors. Whether on the water or in the woods, he was happiest surrounded by nature. He loved sharing those moments with family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his willingness to help anyone in need, and his ability to make people laugh. His life was measured not by possessions but by the love he gave, the friendships he formed, and the countless lives he touched.

We find peace in knowing that he is now with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and reunited with his beloved son, David, whom he had dearly missed for the past 27 years. What a joyful and glorious reunion that must have been!

The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Augusta Health. Their compassionate care turned an almost impossible situation into one we could bear, and we are forever grateful for the comfort and dignity they gave George, and our entire family during his final days.

Though we will miss him deeply, his love and the memories he gave us will live on forever in our hearts.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 63 years, Dorothy (Carter) Buckman.
