David Edward Johnson

David Edward Johnson, 77, of Waynesboro, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2026, at his home.

He was born on December 31, 1948, and was a son of the late William Alfred Johnson, Sr. and Grace Jean (Cappiello) Johnson. David was united in marriage to Barbara Wise Johnson, who survives.

David had worked as the Director of Dining Services for Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community before retiring. In addition, he had worked for Rockingham County Schools as a Special Education teacher. He graduated from James Madison University (2003) and Old Dominion University (2006).

In addition to his wife, David is survived by son, Christopher (Amanda) Johnson; three brothers, Alfred (Juanita) Johnson, Steven (Stephanie) Johnson, Brian (Wendy) Johnson; three grandchildren, Grace, Finley and Sagan Johnson; sister-in-law, Dr. Nancy Wise (Stephen) Jordan; brothers-in-law, Charles (Wanda) Wise, brother-in-law, Leon Porter; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. David was a great animal lover and is also survived by many beloved pets.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Meredith Johnson; brother, William "Bucky" Johnson, Jr. aged 8; two sisters, Patricia (David) Redsicker, Kathryn Porter.

The family will receive friends at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Grottoes. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Grottoes with Pastors Craig Horton and Greg Reynolds officiating.
