Carl James Estes

December 2, 1941 - June 19, 2026

Carl James Estes, 84, of Dayton, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2026, at University of Virginia Medical Center.

He was born on December 2, 1941, and was a son of the late Edgar and Calanthe "Peggy" (Herbert) Estes.

Carl had worked as a Barber for over 61 years and always said, "If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't change a thing". When he wasn't in the barbershop, you could find him at a softball diamond or Burger King. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, willingness to help others, extreme work ethic, and dedication to his family.

Carl was united in marriage for over 54 years to Judith (Clay) Estes, who preceded him in death on Dec. 30, 2020.

Carl is survived by two children, Stacey (Christina) Estes, and Emily Estes; brother, Allen (Nancy) Estes; grandchildren, Parker (Julianne) Estes, and Lauren Estes; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Estes.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 PM on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Bridgewater.

A service celebrating Carl's life will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, June 24th at Turner Ashby High School Auditorium, with Pastors Steve Bird and Jenny Day officiating. Burial will follow at Clover Hill Cemetery. Friends are invited back to Burger King on Rt.11 at 2:30 PM for fellowship.

The family would like to thank the staff of the UVA NNICU Medical Team, Sentara RMH, and Sunnyside Communities for the care provided to Carl.
