Virginia C. Leach
ROCKINGHAM – Virginia May (Collins) Leach, formerly of Churchville, passed away Wednesday (June 17, 2026) in White Birch Assisted Living.
Born November 25, 1929 in the Frank’s Mill area of Augusta County, she was a daughter of the late Ray Clark and Nettie Virginia (Carwell) Collins. She was a 1947 graduate of North River High School. She was employed as a bookkeeper for Obenschain and Company for 38 years, and then worked for the Augusta County Treasurer’s office as a part-time clerk for a number of years prior to retirement. She was a life-long member of Union Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder, session member and treasurer of the church and of the church cemetery. She was a member of the Churchville Senior Center.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Gene B. Leach; sister Janet VanLear; and brothers Dennis L. Collins and R. Norman Collins. Surviving are three daughters, Karen Matheny of Surfside Beach, S.C., Linda Lucas (husband Charlie) of Clemmons, N.C., and Donna Brunk of Bridgewater; seven grandchildren, Karla Holland (husband Matthew), Ryan Matheny, Lindsey Murrell (husband Mike), Lauren Conner (husband Matt), Joshua Lucas, Aaron Brunk (wife Jenn), and Adam Brunk; great grandchildren Matthew Lucas, Hudson Murrell, Danielle Holland, and Landon, Ethan and Owen Conner; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 21 in the chapel of Bear Funeral Home. A private burial will immediately follow in Union Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service.
