Patricia Hurdle

October 3, 1949 - May 7, 2026

On May 7, 2026, Patricia Anne (Rose) Hurdle was unexpectedly called home to be with her Heavenly Father. Born on October 3, 1949, in Waynesboro, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late David and Pearline (Barber) Rose. She was preceded in death by her brothers, James “Jimmy” Rose Sr. (Martha) and Daniel “Danny” Rose; a sister Marguerite Rose; nephews James Rose Jr. and Darnell Rose; a niece Kendra Rose Banks, a sister-in-law, Susan (Lassiter) Rose and a brother-in-law Charles Spears.

Patricia leaves behind two sisters, Mary Spears and Eva Haston (Robert), and two brothers, David “Sonny” Rose (Brenda) and George “Roscoe” Rose, and sister-in-law Delores Rose (Danny). She is also lovingly remembered by her great-niece and goddaughter, Chanise Washington and dear friends Cynthia (Taylor) Williams and Sharon Wells. The family extends special thanks to her devoted, selfless, and loving caregivers, Mary Lou McCarthy (niece) and Devonna Porter (great-niece).

Patricia graduated from Wilson High School and Dominion School of Business. She was a long-time member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. After moving to Salem, Virginia she became an active member of First Baptist Church. A dedicated and hardworking woman; she was employed by General Electric and later worked as a transcriptionist for many years at LewisGale Medical Center in Salem. After retiring, she returned to her childhood home in Waynesboro. Patricia deeply loved her siblings and treated her nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews as her own. She was generous, wise, and always willing to help others. Her beautiful smile and distinctive laugh will be missed. She enjoyed spending time with her family, watching soap operas and Lifetime movies, reading, online shopping, and staying connected with loved ones. Although she could not attend church in person during her latter years, she faithfully watched services online every Sunday. She loved the Lord, and each morning she began her day by saying, “Thank you Jesus!”

Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects and express condolences at her memorial service on Saturday, May 16th, 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. in Fishersville, Virginia. Those wishing to send flowers may send them to the funeral home. Those that would like to donate can send memorial contributions in her honor to Oak Grove Restoration Ministries.
