Betty Nelson Simmons

Betty Nelson Simmons, 90, of Richmond, VA, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

Born to the late Wilbert & Hettie Nelson; Betty was also preceded in death by her loving husband of over 50 years, Norris Henry Simmons.

A proud graduate of Rockingham Memorial Nursing School, she dedicated 27 years of compassionate service as a nurse, and head nurse, at Henrico Doctors Hospital. Throughout her career, Betty was known for her kindness, skill, and unwavering commitment to caring for others.

Betty found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved going to yard sales and had a passion for collecting antiques, always appreciating each piece. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome, especially during the holidays, and especially during her favorite holiday, Christmas. She took great delight in preparing meals for family and friends. She was a devoted member of Skipwith United Methodist Church, where she was actively involved in the Women’s Circles group. Faith and fellowship were important parts of her life, and she cherished the community found there.

Betty is survived by her sons, Gregory Simmons, and Stephen Simmons; grandchildren, Buddy (Rachel) and Billy; great-grandchildren, Haley and Hudson; as well as many nieces and nephews.
