Phyllis Jean Walker
Phyllis Jean Walker, 83, of Waynesboro, went peacefully to be with her Lord on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Phyllis was born on December 25, 1942 in Swoope to the late Carlton Eugene Curry and the late Beulah Dudley Curry.
Phyllis was a graduate of Wilson Memorial High School and a member of Blue Ridge Church of the Brethren in Waynesboro. She was employed as a hairdresser at Leola’s Beauty Solon, General Electric in the Relays Department, and cafeteria worker at Waynesboro High School, Store Manager at A. T. Company (Wilco) and in 2007 retiring as a custodian from Valley Vocational Tech School. She loved collecting cookbooks, working with crossword puzzles, going to auctions and fishing at Myrtle Beach.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the father of her children, Franklin D. Herron and her granddaughters, Lindsay Autumn Herron and Cortney Sondrol Small.
She leaves to treasure her memory, her husband, Vernon Lee Walker, who she married on September 6, 2014; her children, Ileta Herron Sondrol and her husband, Mark Sondrol and Franklin Eugene Herron and his wife, Nina Ingram Herron; grandchildren, Franklin Scott Herron, Lucas Eugene Herron, Dillon Lee Herron, Skyler Matthew Herron, Jordan Sierra Sondrol and Sarah Faith Sondrol; great grandchildren, Adam Robert Small, Aaron Bobby Small, Laci Paige Small, Nalani Elaine Herron, Aydin Lucas Scott Herron, Jaxon Lee Joseph Herron and Collins Jay Davis Herron; sister, Ruby Savilla Price; step-daughter, Barbara Rowe and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Augusta Health Hospice, Teresa Dinges, Nicole Senger, and Shirley Walker for all the special care and love expended to Phyllis and the family.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at Charlton ad Groome Funeral Home and where a funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm in the chapel on Thursday, April 30, 2026 conducted by Pastor Bill Cole.
Active pallbearers will be Franklin S. Herron, Lucas E. Herron, Dillon L. Herron, Skyler M. Herron, David E. Price and Bobby Small.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Interment will follow at Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro, Virginia.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
