Ann Day McPherson, 80, longtime resident of Staunton, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. She was born in Rockbridge County on August 11, 1945, to the late Robert Wilmer and Aileen Virginia Reid Day. Ann was a graduate of Rockbridge High School and the Elizabeth Brandt School of Business. She furthered her education through studies at Blue Ridge Community College and the American Institute of Banking. Ann had a deep and lasting commitment to the health and well-being of her community. She served on the Board of Trustees of King's Daughters Hospital and the Board of Directors of Augusta Health, where she was actively involved in numerous committees and organizations, including the Community Health Forum and the Augusta Regional Free Clinic. She was also a devoted member of the Augusta Garden Club, the Historic Staunton Foundation, and Trinity Episcopal Church. She is survived by her brother, Lynwood Reid Day and his wife, JoeAnn; the children of her beloved husband, Richard Fontaine McPherson: R. Fontaine McPherson, Jr., Thomas P. McPherson, Mary McPherson Mitchell, John L. McPherson; and their children, Richard F. McPherson III, Charlotte McP. Babington, Virginia McP. Ward, Gray P. McPherson, David F. Mitchell, Thomas B. Mitchell, L. Hopkins Mitchell, J. Lewis McPherson, Jr., and William H. McPherson; her ten great-grandchildren; and her many wonderful friends. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton with the Reverend William “A.J.” Heine officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Ann’s memory to the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah (c/o Augusta Health Foundation, P.O. Box 1000, Fishersville, VA 22939), where Ann received compassionate care in her final days. Henry Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
