William "Bill" Francis Templeton

December 12, 1941 - April 9, 2026

William Francis “Bill” Templeton, 84, of Waynesboro, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at his home. He was born in Albemarle County on December 12, 1941, a son of the late Leroy Francis and Josephine Elizabeth (Mays) Templeton.

Bill proudly served in the United States Marines and was honorably discharged in 1965. He retired as supervisor with DuPont where he served for 39 years. As a second career Bill worked as a vehicle processor with Harrisonburg Auto Auction for 15 years. He later followed his passion as an auctioneer serving private auctions and volunteering at the Waynesboro Fire Department Auction. He was also passionate about voter’s rights and volunteered for many years at the polls. Bill was an avid sports fan from playing baseball in his youth to watching and cheering on his favorite teams the Nationals, Washington Commanders, and his favorite NASCAR driver, Jeff Gordon. He was an outdoors man that enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his vegetable and flower gardens.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond and Lee Templeton.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Maxine Templeton; son, Tracy Templeton; grandchildren, Bridget and Alex Templeton; brothers, Harold and Bob Templeton; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

A funeral service with military honors will be conducted at 1pm on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 from 6pm until 8 pm at the funeral home.
