Shirley M. Mullenax

January 6, 1936 - April 3, 2026

STAUNTON – Shirley Mae (Huffer) Mullenax, 90, passed away Friday, April 3, 2026.

Born January 6, 1936 in Augusta County, she was a daughter of Eston Samuel Huffer and Stella (Campbell) Huffer. Shirley graduated from Churchville High School and earned a secretarial diploma from Madison College. She was employed by Smith’s Transfer for four years and American Safety Razor for 12 years. She worked for Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center for 19 years prior to retirement. She was a member of Parkway Wesleyan Church, and was previously a Sunday school teacher at First Church of God (Shutterlee Mill Road) and Emmanual Wesleyan Church on Sudbury Street. Shirley enjoyed participating in senior volleyball, tennis and bowling, including some statewide competitions, organized through ASR. She also enjoyed hunting and fishing; and was especially passionate about metal-detecting, evidenced by the many treasures she collected over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William A. “Bill” Mullenax; son Dennis Wayne Mullenax; grandson Trinity Wayne Mullenax; son-in-law Allan Windsor; brother Odell Huffer; and sister Vada Kellogg. Surviving are her daughter, Shelly Mae Windsor of Erwin, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Hilda Huffer of Churchville; five grandsons, Aaron Marotta and wife Kathleen, Ethan Marotta and wife Samantha, Evan Marotta, Issaac Marotta, and Dakota Windsor and wife Jessica; nine great-grandchildren, Liam, Silas, Ian, Trinity, and Tristan Marotta, and Parker, and Mason, Reagan and Khloe Windsor; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 10 in the chapel of Bear Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Adam Watts. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Aaron, Ethan, Evan and Issaac Marotta, Dakota Windsor, and Liam, Silas and Ian Marotta.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday, beginning at 1 p.m.
