Elva Jones

Elva Jean Jones, 97, who resided at the Monroe Health and Rehabilitation, Charlottesville, Virginia, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2026. She was born in Lipscomb, Virginia on March 9, 1929, daughter of the late Viola and John Jacob Payne.

Elva was an active church-goer and she loved singing in the choir.

The family would like offer special appreciation to the staff of Monroe Health and Rehabilitation, Charlottesville, for the loving care shown Elva over the years.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings, Margie East, Thelma Beverage, Mary Odom, Wilson Payne, Woodrow Payne, Sylvester Payne, Jim Payne, Anna Payne, Dorothy Shirey and Pauline Moreland.

Survivors include her children, Charles Campbell, Jr. and wife, Martha of Florida, Gary Campbell and wife, Alice of Stuarts Draft, Jeannie Campbell Rogozinski and husband, Marty of Waynesboro, Jimmy Campbell and wife, Suzanne of Boston, Massachusetts and Linda Jones Painter of Fishersville. Nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, April 2, 2026 at Augusta Memorial Park, 1775 Goose Creek Rd., Waynesboro. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery for the service.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to a charity of your choice in her memory.
