Zona Jean Michael

We gave our beloved Zona Jean Michael to the arms of Jesus on March 26, 2026. She was the beauty of our world; our brightest light. As a wife, mother, friend, and stranger, she poured her love into all of us, asking nothing in return. We mourn her deeply, yet “Blessed are they that mourn,” and we are blessed. The love she gave is the love we carry forward, and her spirit is a following wind to us all.

She was born October 22, 1949, the daughter of the late Turner Custer and Jean Clark.

She was preceded in death by her elder brother, Daniel Wilson Custer.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Durwood Michael; her sons, Channing Fox and Travis Fox, and their wives, Melissa and Jodi; her stepchildren, Ashley Blackwell and her husband Jeremy, and Adam Michael and his wife Marguerite; her brothers, Gene Nicholas Custer, John Custer, and George Custer; and her grandchildren, who were the joy of her life, Gabriella Fox, Ethan Fox, Jack Fox, Adara Fox, Nathaniel Fox, Gemma Michael, Marley Michael, and Quinn Michael. They carry her heart into a bright tomorrow.

A memorial and celebration of Zona’s life will be held at Emmanuel Church of the Brethren, 411 Emmanuel Church Rd, Mount Solon, VA 22843, at 2:00 PM on Good Friday, April 3rd, where Pastor Tim McAvoy of Victory Fellowship will be graciously hosted to officiate.
