Howard Jesse “Dickie” Hollar Sr., 87, of Woodstock, VA, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2026, at The Maynard in Strasburg, VA.

Born in Shenandoah County, VA on November 27, 1938, to Howard Franklin and Nina Racey Hollar, Dickie attended the Virginia School for the Deaf in Staunton, graduating with the Class of 1957.  Shortly after, he began what would become a remarkable 50‑year career in printing. He first worked at the Winchester Star before moving to Alexandria, VA, where he joined the Washington Star and later accepted a position with the US Government Printing Office. He proudly served there for 30 years until his retirement. Never one to slow down, Dickie embraced new technology and continued his craft at the Manassas Journal Messenger and ultimately at the Northern Virginia Daily. He was also a member of the Columbia Typographical Union.

In Woodstock, Dickie was well‑known for his friendly spirit and loved visiting local shops, restaurants, and exploring the Valley. He had a lifelong passion for collecting model cars, Hess trucks, and automotive books. He was also a proud Life Member of the Moose Lodge.

Dickie is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Evelyn; his son and daughter‑in‑law, Howard and Trish; his son, Donnie; and two grandchildren, Courtney and Matthew.
