Patricia McChesney
Patricia (Patty) Louise McChesney, 68, of Toms Brook, VA, formerly of Oil City, PA, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus. She was born on July 16, 1957, to Elizabeth (Reeves) Hosea and the late Charles Robert Rumburd in Oil City, PA.
Patty was the youngest of her 5 siblings and shared a birthday with her mother and late grandmother, Mabel Eletha Reeves. Three generations of women born on the same day, and all exactly 28 years apart. Patty enjoyed the small things in life, such as feeding the birds and squirrels in her driveway, and caring for the stray cats behind Burger King in Strasburg, VA. With the assistance of the Humane Society of Shenandoah County, Patty was able to make sure all were spayed/neutered and ear tipped. She took pride in caring for the cats and loved each of them dearly.
Patty was employed by Americold Logistics in Strasburg, VA where she worked until cancer forced her into retirement mid-2025. She thoroughly enjoyed her coworkers and missed them after retirement. Her family appreciates those that stayed in touch with her through her final days. Patty is survived by her husband, Leon, whom she met in 10th grade of high school when attending Vo-Tech. They were married for nearly 50 years. She was a 1975 graduate of Oil City (PA) High school.
Survivors also include her two children Denise McChesney and her significant other Brandon of Lebanon, PA and her son, Kyle and wife Beth McChesney of Middletown, VA; 5 grandchildren, Samuel and Carter Wolford of Lebanon, PA, Raegan, Haleigh, and Maverick McChesney of Middletown, VA. Additional survivors are her mother, Elizabeth (Bea) Hosea, her siblings Barb Bouquin, Debbie Rumburd, and Connie Rumburd, along with many nieces and nephews that she loved very much. She is also survived by her beloved fur-baby, Shirley, who stayed by her side as she battled cancer. Patty was preceded in death by her father Charles Robert Rumburd and brother, Thomas Robert Rumburd. The family would like to thank Shenandoah Oncology and the 4th Floor staff of the Women’s Hospital at INOVA Fairfax Medical Campus for their care and compassion while their mother bravely fought her battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life for Patty will be held at a later time. Patty requested her ashes be spread in places that she loved. Her family will gather to honor those wishes and do just that. She was so loved.
Memorials can be made to the Humane Society of Shenandoah County Spay and Neuter Fund by visiting their website (www.hsscva.org) or by check payable to “HSSC” (PO Box 173, Woodstock, VA 22664).
