Edward L. Gordon
SWOOPE – Edward Lee Gordon, 71, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
Ed was born in Staunton on March 18, 1954, and was a son of the late Edward Lacy and Anna Belle (Vines) Gordon. He was a graduate of Wilson Memorial High School. Ed’s long career in law enforcement included his service as an Augusta County sheriff’s deputy and many years of work with the Virginia Department of Corrections as a regional training coordinator, retiring in 2008. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and motorcycling with his family. He was also a great cook and enjoyed producing large-scale meals for his family and friends. Ed attended Calvary Baptist Church in Staunton and Jerusalem Chapel United Brethren in Christ Church in Churchville.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Dianna Waybright Gordon, whom he married October 9, 1999; daughter Heather Gordon; stepchildren Ericka Elkins Martin and Rodney Elkins (Patsy Malcolm); grandson Zachary; step-grandchildren Christian Elkins, Jadin Martin, Mason Martin, Collin Martin and Ian Martin; Dianna’s siblings Kathy Hart (Gary), David Waybright, Shane Waybright (Sue) and Lisa Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 4 in Jerusalem Chapel Church. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11 a.m., officiated by Pastor Bobby Campbell, with burial in Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Chris Waybright, Rodney Elkins, Seth Tumer, Christian Elkins, Collin Martin, Mason Martin, Ian Martin and J. R. Coleman.
