Catherine Oliver Steger

Catherine Oliver Steger, 96, of Grottoes, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

She was born on March 26, 1929 in Reidsville, NC, and was a daughter of the late Manton and Katie (Bunn) Oliver.

Catherine was a graduate of University of North Carolina Greensboro. She loved Jesus and was a member of the Grottoes United Methodist Church.

She was united in marriage on Sept. 20, 1952, to Lyall Steger, Jr., who preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 2007.

Catherine is survived by five children: Ann (Robby) Carr, of Mount Sidney, Martha (Mal) Livick, of Grottoes, Audrey (Dan) Dreelin, of Port Republic, Cath (Matt) Olcott, of Ft. Defiance, and Lyall (fiance Wendy Filler) Steger, III, of Grottoes; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Anna Love Rankin, and Pam Lemons; and brothers, Manton and John Oliver.

A service celebrating Catherine's life will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026, at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Grottoes, with Pastor Jim Logan officiating.
