Douglas Ronceverte Hanger
Douglas Ronceverte Hanger, 74, a lifelong resident of Old Greenville Road in Staunton, Virginia, entered heaven on Saturday, February 21, 2026. He passed peacefully at Shenandoah House Hospice Care following a brief illness involving Covid-19 and pneumonia, comforted in the presences of his Savior.
Born in Staunton, Virginia on December 7, 1951, Doug lived a full and independent life. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Ronceverte Hanger and Maguerite Bragg Hanger. Though he leaves no immediate family, he is survived by his devoted friend, Wilson Fauber, who provided unwavering companionship, care, and support throughout his later years, and several other dear friends. He also leaves behind his beloved English Labrador retriever, Rocky Boy.
An avid outdoorsman with a deep love of nature, Doug was a highly skilled deer and turkey hunter and an accomplished trophy fisherman. He was a proud graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Staunton and remained devoted to his alma mater throughout his life. Doug was also an enthusiastic amateur (ham) radio operator, through which he formed many lasting friendships. He will be remembered fondly by all whose lives he touched through his kindness, loyal friendships, and steadfast Christian witness.
Wilson and Anita Fauber will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2026 in the Coffman Funeral home Chapel conducted by Rev. Wilson Fauber.
Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
