Arthur Lloyd “Art” Spedden, Jr., 82, husband of Joshlyn Lee “Jo” Spedden, of Staunton, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026 at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Art was born in Washington, D.C. on June 26, 1943, a son of the late Arthur Lloyd Spedden, Sr. and Dorothy (Shifflett) Spedden.
Art faithfully served his community as a Sergeant with the Arlington County Police Department, retiring on July 1, 1993, after 30+ years of dedicated service. His heart for others led him to volunteer with ACTS Food Shelter, where he continued to care for those in need throughout Northern Virginia.
A devoted member of Linden Heights Baptist Church, Art’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. He studied his Bible nightly and built a cherished collection of biblical books that reflected his deep love of Scripture. He led Bible studies, was an active member of the LHBC Brotherhood group, assisted in the food pantry, loved singing in the choir, and faithfully served as a Deacon. He loved the Lord wholeheartedly, and his life was a testimony to others—often sharing Scripture from memory and offering encouragement rooted in faith. Art was also deeply committed to Compassion International, sponsoring children and supporting its mission with great passion.
On July 17, 1982, he married the love of his life, Jo, and together they shared 43 wonderful years of marriage filled with devotion, joy, and unwavering partnership.
Art was truly loved by many and will be remembered for his servant’s heart and steadfast faith.
