Margaret Leona (Vencill) Breeding
Margaret Vencill Breeding passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026, at the age of 91. Though she will be dearly missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is finally home, reunited once again with Henry, her beloved husband of nearly 67 years.
Born in Russell County, Va., on April 1, 1934, Margaret was the daughter of the late Teddy R. and Clara Cox Vencill. She was a graduate of Lebanon High School and married Henry in 1954. The couple made their home in the Staunton area beginning in 1970.
A devoted member of New Hope United Methodist Church, Margaret especially cherished her time with the women of the Minnie Carr Circle. She loved being with others and valued the fellowship found both at church and during her water aerobics classes at the Y.
Margaret was a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister, taking great joy in caring for her family. Known as “Mamaw” to her grandchildren, she was always ready to cook a favorite meal, work on a sewing project, or lend a helping hand in any way she could. She will be remembered for her quick sense of humor, her warm and generous spirit, and her deep love for her family.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, E.J. and Teddy Vencill Jr.; her sister, Thelma Vencill; her granddaughter, Angie Ruoto; and her grandson, Joe Ruoto.
She is survived by her children, Thelma Smith (and Wayne), Mike Breeding (and Becky), and Andy Breeding (and Dana); her grandchildren, Preston Smith (and Sarah), Summer Brooks (and Dougie), Beth, Clara, and Chloe Breeding; eight great-grandchildren; her sisters, Nancy Bausell, Polly Cox, and Sue Fife; her brother-in-law, Sherman Breeding (and Phyllis); her sisters-in-law, Geraldine Vencill and Martha Snyder (and Stacey); and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 21, at 11 a.m. at New Hope United Methodist Church, followed by a reception for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margaret's memory to New Hope United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 86, New Hope, VA 24469.
Sincere thanks to the caring staff of The Meadows in Stuarts Draft, Va.
