William "Bill" Charles Bishop
William Charles “Bill” Bishop, Sr., 79, husband of Nancy “Carolyn” (Martin) Bishop, of Staunton, went to his heavenly home on Monday, February 2, 2026 at his residence.
Mr. Bishop was born in Wythe County, Virginia on April 30, 1946, a son of the late James L. Bishop and Laura Ruth (Corvin) Bishop Keen.
Bill was a 1965 graduate of Fort Chiswell High School where he played football, baseball, and threw the discus. He lettered over thirteen times in varsity sports.
A veteran of the United States Navy, Mr. Bishop served from 1965 until 1969, with tours to Vietnam and Mediterranean Conflicts.
Professionally, Bill was a skilled electrician. He was the owner and operator of Bishop Electric and later medically retired from VDOT.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bishop was preceded in death by a brother, Garnett E. Bishop.
Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife, are two sons, William Charles “Chuck” Bishop, Jr. and his wife, Ann of Berryville, VA and Steven Todd Bishop and his wife, Tara of Staunton; two grandchildren, Aaron Kyle Bishop and his wife, Hannah and Alyson Nicole Bishop Smith and her husband, Tyler; two step-grandchildren, Aubrey and Bailey Beard; two great-grandchildren, Eleanor Kate “Nora” Bishop and Colter Smith; brothers and sisters-in-law, Danny Martin and his wife, JoAnn, Bill Martin and his wife, Kathy, Sandy Surratt and her husband, Darrell, and Sheri Martin (widow of Randy Martin); and a number of nieces and nephews.
Also surviving, is his adopted family, Bruce and Christina Delp; grandad’s little buddy, A.J. Delp; and a niece who Bill and Carolyn helped raise, Amy Jarvis of Martinsville, VA.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2026 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastors Heath Spivey, John Hash, and Philip Morgan.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
