December 30, 1943 in Harrisonburg, Virginia to Harrison Saylor and Virginia Saylor Wilson. He
spent his childhood growing up between Grottoes, Virginia and Baltimore, Maryland.
On September 27, 1961, he married his high school sweetheart, Anne Saylor and the two
celebrated their 64th anniversary this past year. Roger and Anne were blessed with two children: Debra (Debbie) Elaine Saylor and Roger Lee Saylor, Jr.
Throughout his life, Roger held many positions that helped transform the town of Grottoes into the successful community it is today. Roger served on the Grottoes Town Council for 12 years, helped start the Grottoes Rescue Squad in 1967, helped commission the town's sewer plant, wrote grants that provided the town street signs, and organized a mailbox system for the town. After retiring from Reynolds in Grottoes after 23 years, he purchased and operated Shendun Food and Ice Cream Parlor from 1983 to 2001. Some of his other career accomplishments include owning and operating Shendun Mini Storage Units, owning several apartments and duplexes in Grottoes, serving as a member of the Grottoes Ruritan Club, and building homes with Habitat for Humanity. Roger and Anne were also long-time members of the Full Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle Church in Elkton, Virginia.
