Charlie Vernon Stewart

Charlie Vernon Stewart, 92, of Grottoes, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Augusta Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on September 23, 1933, and was a son of William Stewart and Leslie Lee (Gowan) Stewart.

Charlie had worked as a custodian for Reynolds Metals in the plastic division. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army.

Charlie was united in marriage to Carol Elaine (Sandridge) Stewart for 68 years, who preceded him in death on July 2, 2025.

Charlie is survived by son, Vernon (Peggy) Stewart; two grandchildren, Amber (Jason Cunningham) Bennington, Amanda Stewart; one great-grandchildren, Huntley "Hunt Bug" Bennington; nieces, Susan (Paul) Gochenour and Lois Driskill; a nephew, Larry Adams; great nephew, Ethan "Red" Gochenour; bonus daughter Valerie (Gruver) Watson and his devoted four legged companion Patsy.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Jessie Adams.

The family will receive friends between 6pm - 7pm on Monday, Janurary 19, 2026. A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, Janurary 20, 2026 at Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro, with Chaplain David Kite officiating.
