Rita Mager Kimbrough

September 7, 1932 - December 15, 2025

Rita Mager Kimbrough, 93, of Staunton, passed away peacefully on December 15th, 2025 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.

Rita was born Rita Ann Mager in Buffalo, New York on September 7, 1932, to the late Engelbert and Martha (née Kussowski) Mager. A devoted Roman Catholic, her faith guided her daily life.

Rita was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Felix Clark Kimbrough.

She is survived by her loving children, Phil Kimbrough (Jill), Martha Kimbrough-Smidt (Robert Smidt), Mary Lynn Palenik (Richard), and Julie Kimbrough (Peter Alessi). She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Alec Smidt (Alexander Darling), Natalie Smidt, Richard Palenik II, Emma Alessi, and Charles Alessi; and one great-grandchild, Mason Smidt.

Rita balanced work and family responsibilities throughout her life, especially during her years raising her children. She cared deeply for her family and friends and valued the relationships she had.

Rita found great meaning in her faith and valued her parish communities throughout her life. She was baptized at St. Nicholas Church in Buffalo, New York, and married Felix at St. Matthew’s Church, also in Buffalo, New York. Over the years, she was a member of Nativity of Our Savior Parish in Portage, IN, St. Thomas More Catholic Community in Las Vegas, and St. Francis of Assisi in Henderson, NV. Most recently, she was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish in Staunton, Virginia.

Rita was deeply devoted to the causes that mattered to her and gave her time generously. Most memorably, she was an avid volunteer in all aspects of parish life at Nativity of Our Savior in Portage, Indiana, as Treasurer of Answer for Pregnancy Aid in Hobart, Indiana, and as a member of the Respect For Life group at St. Francis of Assisi in Henderson, NV.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Answer for Pregnancy Aid, Inc. (705 Colonial Drive, Hobart, IN 46342) in Rita’s memory.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Nativity of Our Savior in Portage, Indiana.

Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Portage, Indiana.

Rita will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
