Frances June Moore

June 10, 1928 - December 15, 2025

Frances June Moore, 97, of Grottoes, VA, went to be with the Lord on December 15, 2025, surrounded at home by her three children.

She was born on June 10, 1928, in Washington DC, the third daughter of Filmore and Ella Craun Western. June attended the DC public schools, graduating from Anacostia High School in 1947. During her youth she greatly treasured her summer visits to the Craun family farm near Grottoes.

She married in 1948 and relocated to North Carolina, where her three children were born. In 1962, she moved to Virginia with her children, living in Staunton from 1963 until 1996. June worked for 28 years as a bank teller, retiring in 1991 from Bank of America. She and her family were members of Second Presbyterian Church.

Leaving Staunton in 1996, she spent time in close proximity with her two daughters in the Weyers Cave and Grottoes area, attending Mt. Horeb Presbyterian Church, a family church since its founding in the mid-1800s.

In 2014 June relocated to Gillette, Wyoming, where she lived near her youngest daughter. While in Gillette she was very active at the Campbell County Senior Center, forming close friendships as a founding member of the ‘Gillette Golden Girls’. She returned to Grottoes in 2017 where she lived independently, until her passing, on her daughters’ property. One of her favorite activities was giving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren rides around the property on her two golfcarts, which she affectionally called “Sami” and “Sami 2”.

June is survived by three children, Barbara (Gene) Knick, Bill (Nancy) Moore, and Kay (Wade) Myers; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Virginia Western, and Evelyn Marie Western-Kling.

Even in difficult moments, June was able to find humor. Her life was shaped by sacrifice, courage, and strength, and by an extraordinary love for family that continues to filter through the generations.

Arrangements are entrusted to Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Grottoes, VA. Online condolences may be sent to the family at johnsonfs.com.
