Jencie Mae (Brownlee) Garner
Jencie Mae Garner, 82, of Staunton, Virginia, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025. Born on May 19, 1943, in Waynesboro, Virginia, Jencie was the daughter of Cecil and Louise Brownlee. She grew up in Waynesboro and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School before earning a degree in Arts from Richmond Professional Institute (now Virginia Commonwealth University).
An accomplished artist throughout her life, Jencie had a deep love for nature and expressed it through her art. Her works included watercolors, drawings, stained glass, pottery, photography, and other mediums. She captured the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Shenandoah Valley, and the landscapes she called home. Jencie was an active member of several local artist associations in the Staunton area and showcased her work in galleries and public displays. Her creativity extended to her garden, which bloomed each spring with vibrant colors and was a source of personal pride and joy.
Jencie cared deeply about others and all living things. She expressed herself beautifully and creatively through her artwork, and her love for nature extended to caring for animals and tending gardens, guiding them, and watching them grow. Throughout her life, she had many beloved pets, including her latest companion, Daisy. She took great pride in her children and grandchildren, and cherished spending time with family. Jencie also cared about her local community, enjoying the vibrant art scene, farmers’ markets, and local events that brought people together in Staunton.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Brian Center in Fincastle, Virginia, and the Legacy Hospice care team for their thoughtful and loving support to Jencie and her family.
Jencie will be laid to rest at Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro, alongside her beloved husband, James Cox Garner. She was preceded in death by her husband and her brother, Jerry Brownlee.
