Betty Gene Via

Betty Gene Via, 89, died Thanksgiving Day, 11/27/2025 at her residence. She was born October 21, 1936 in Grottoes, VA. She was the daughter of the late William Thomas Via and Edna Virginia Morris Via Wyant.

"For he lives on the other side of the mountain, and Miss Betty lives on the twilight side of the hill." On August 25, 1953 she (from the west side of the Blue Ridge), married Julian Ira Via (from the east side), who preceded her in death on 1/3/2018. She also lost a grandson, Adam Hester, and her only brother, William Via.

Betty worked and retired from American Safety Razor. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Bethel Church. Betty NEVER met a stranger, and she loved to sing and dance for all.

She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Hester and her husband, Colin; son, Jason Via and his partner, Rachel Ingraham; grandson, Daniel Hester and wife, Holly, all of Grottoes; granddaughters, Hannah, Abigail, and Amelia Via, Myla Smith & Nora Hester, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Friends may visit at the home of her daughter & son-in-law at 521 Point Lookout Road, Grottoes.

On Sunday, December 7th at Mt. Bethel Church at 148 Rock Mountain Lane, Crimora, you can visit with the family starting at 1:00 pm. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 pm. Burial will proceed afterward at Mt. Bethel's cemetery.

Following the service, all are welcome to gather at the Woodmen of the World Hall in Grottoes.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Mt. Bethel Church and/or Grottoes Rescue Squad.
