Francis Mawyer
Francis Lee Mawyer, Sr., 90 of Crimora, passed away peacefully at the Shenandoah Hospice House of Augusta Health on Monday, November 24, 2025. He was born on March 26, 1935, a son of the late Mariah Miller Painter Mawyer and Russell Henry Mawyer.
Francis was a charter member of Fishersville Baptist Church. He worked several years between Waynesboro Amusement Hall, Augusta Memorial Park, Reynolds Funeral Home, McDow Funeral Home, and Augusta Health where he retired from at the age of 84.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife; Sylvia Estes Mawyer; third wife, Zelda Breeden Mawyer; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Raymond Hensley; sons, Francis Lee Mawyer, Jr., and Gary Michael Mawyer; granddaughter, Leslie Renee Mawyer; grandson, Gary Dustin Mawyer, and other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Survivors include his first wife and mother of his children who he stayed very close to, Clara “Jane” Mawyer of Staunton; son, James “Jimmy” Mawyer of Crimora; daughters, Donna Gail Lowe of Staunton, Adena Lynn Eppard and husband, Mark of Standardsville; daughter-in-law, Lisa Mawyer of Staunton; grandchildren: Frankie Mawyer and wife, Tina, Tonia Mawyer, Nikki Ivany and husband, Denny, Michael Mawyer and partner, Crystal, Travis Mawyer and wife, Cherly, Latisha Mawyer, Casey Mawyer and partner, Niel, Jennifer Lowe Hartman, Michael Lowe and wife, Lindsay, Shane George, Tommy Seaman, Brittany Canniff and husband, Derek, Brandon Mawyer and wife, Mariah, and Landon Mawyer; as well as a number of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, extended family; special friend and care giver, Linda Anderson, who Francis’s family holds a special place in their heart for all the hours and care she showed him.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Shenandoah Hospice House for their compassionate care.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Charlton and Groome Funeral Home.
