Bruce Sutton

Bruce Wilton Sutton, 65, of Staunton, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025 at his home. He was born in Lynchburg on July 23, 1960 a son of the late Glen Wilton and Martha Rebekah Sutton.

Bruce proudly served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on August 23, 1979. He worked as material relocation engineer. Bruce served as a environmental and social activist, a historian, an epicurean, and an original Virginian “Native Son.” He was known for being a sharp witted master of linguistics who welcomed lively conversation with all he met; he never remained a stranger for long.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Beverly Rayman; sister, Glena Dameron; nephews, Miles and Christian; step-mother, Irene Sutton; sister-in-law, Joy Rayman; as well as extended family and friends.

A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Valley Mission, 1513 W. Beverly St., Staunton, VA, 22401.

In his final days, Bruce was embraced by love and cared for by his wife, his cousin, Eleni Sutton, sister-in-law, Joy Rayman, and friend of the family Laura Yanney.

The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to Hospice of the Shenandoah and for all who offered love, support, prayers, food and especially those who never left Bruce’s side as he journeyed on to his next adventure. “You know who you are.”
