Thelma (Ferguson) Rexrode
Thelma (Ferguson) Rexrode, 89, of Staunton, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, with her two daughter’s by her side, at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville.
She was born in Newcastle, England on November 5, 1935, a daughter of the late William and Doris (Kyley) Ferguson.
Thelma was the fourth oldest of eleven children. She met Frank A. Rexrode while he was stationed in England, serving in the United States Air Force. They were married in 1957 and after Frank’s retirement from the service, they moved to the United States and came to Staunton to live in 1969. Their marriage made her a member of the Transatlantic Brides and Parents Organization, where she formed many lifelong friendships which brought her much joy and comfort while she lived in the United States. After working at Genesco for twenty-five years, she then worked at Augusta Health until her retirement. Thelma enjoyed knitting and gardening and had the ability to make anything grow. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed traveling, especially her trips home to England to spend time with her family and friends. Thelma was devoted to her family and will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Jeffrey Ferguson, George Ferguson, and Gordon Ferguson.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan V. Folweiler of Fishersville and Barrie L. Rexrode, of Staunton; three brothers, Frederick Ferguson and his wife, Jane, Robert Ferguson and his wife, Penny, and John Ferguson and his wife, Julie; four sisters, Florence Bradford, Doris Hyde, Jean Purslow, and Marion Baxter and her husband, Brian, and two grandchildren, Tara Moran and Matthew Moran; three great-grandchildren, Alizia Beth McNeal, Meghan Sprouse, and Meredith Sprouse; and four great-great-grandchildren, Oliver Campbell, Owen Webb, Zayden McNeal, and Zella McNeal, along with many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Memorial Baptist Church in Staunton with Pastor Todd Latham officiating. A meal and fellowship with the family will follow the service.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Legacy Hospice for the wonderful care, love, and support provided to Thelma and her family.
