Ward Gay Whitesell

Ward Gay Whitesell, 73, husband of Sondra Ann (Keyser) Whitesell, of Staunton, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025 at the Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville, Virginia.
Mr. Whitesell was born in Augusta County, Virginia on July 27, 1952, a son of the late Raymond William and Charlotte Estelle (Griffin) Whitesell.
Ward retired in 2014 from Augusta Health. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing and being in the outdoors. Mr. Whitesell attended Hope Filled Christian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Hansford L. Whitesell and Elmer J. Griffin; and a sister, Phyllis (Whitesell) Gill. 
Surviving in addition to his wife of 54 years, is a daughter, Becky (Whitesell) Kidd and her husband, Mike of Waynesboro; two grandchildren, Somere Cline of Fishersville and Cody Cline of Stuarts Draft; four great-grandchildren, Adalynn, Levi, Jensen and Brixley; a brother, David Whitesell of Staunton; a brother-in-law, Johnny Gill of Staunton; and his fur baby, Emma Grace.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.  
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Earl Monroe.
Burial will be private.
Active pallbearers will be Somere Cline, Cody Cline, Mike Kidd, Nathan Kidd, Davey Whitesell, and Greg Whitesell.
Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandchildren and his nieces and nephews.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, Virginia is in charge of his arrangements.
