Louis Newman

Louis Junior Newman, affectionately known as “Tush” or “Cat,” was born on November 9, 1939, to the late Robert and Catherine Newman of Middletown, Virginia. He peacefully departed this life on the morning of October 8, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at his home in Strasburg, Virginia.

Louis was united in marriage to Shirley S. Newman on August 19, 1978, and together they built a life filled with love, family, and friendship.

He leaves to cherish his memory seven children — daughters Lillian Jean Thomas, Betty Kay Strother, and Terry Warner, all of Strasburg, Virginia; and son Lawrence Strother of North Charleston, South Carolina — as well as the cherished memory of three late daughters, Minnett Strother, Janet Roberts, and Kendra Mitchell, all of Strasburg, Virginia.

He is also survived by two sisters, Cindy Newman Williams of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Rebecca Finley of Winchester, Virginia.

Throughout his life, Louis worked diligently at Avtex in Front Royal, Virginia, and Lear Corporation in Strasburg, Virginia. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a loyal friend to many. His kindness, humor, and generosity will be remembered by all who knew him.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Catherine Newman; sisters Anna Shane, Corinna Cain, Sally Asbury, Josie Bogle, Julia Smith, and Frances Nickens; and brothers Bobby Newman, David Newman, Steven Newman, Amos Williams, and John Williams. He is a member of Esbie Baptist Church of Strasburg, Va, pastored by Rev. Dr. Merwyn Brisco. Louis will be deeply missed and forever loved by his wife, children, grand and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

A celebration of life and home-going service for Mr. Newman will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Stover Funeral Home and Crematory in Strasburg with Rev. Dr. Merwyn Briscoe officiating. Mr. Newman will be laid to rest at the Mount Zion Church Cemetery in Strasburg.

The family will receive friends at Stover funeral home one hour prior to the service.
