Sandra Kay (Scrogham) Bright

March 7, 1951 - October 2, 2025

Sandra Kay (Scrogham) Bright, 74, of Staunton, Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025.
Ms. Bright was born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 7, 1951, the daughter of the late Samuel Miller Scrogham and Annie Pirkey Scrogham. Though she began her life in Baltimore, Sandra spent most of her years in Staunton and throughout Augusta County, where she built a life filled with family, resilience, and an uncommon gift for nurturing plants and people alike.
Sandra married Ralph “Steve” Bright, with whom she raised three sons. Her greatest pride was her family, and her role as a mother defined much of her life.
Sandra was fiercely independent and tough, qualities that carried her through life’s challenges with determination. She had a gardener’s heart and a rare green thumb — able to coax growth out of even the most stubborn plants under the harshest conditions. Family and friends often marveled at her ability to bring beauty and life to any space. She also loved the hunt for antiques and the thrill of thrift store shopping, always on the lookout for unique treasures that reflected her eclectic style.
She was also known for keeping her family on the move. Sandra was never quite content with staying in one place and developed a habit of buying and selling homes throughout the region, ensuring that her sons had plenty of experience with packing boxes and settling into new houses. It became a part of her story — a quirk that those who knew her best recall with fondness and humor.
Sandra is survived by her sons, Timothy S. Bright (Eric Needham), Christopher A. Bright, and Kevin A. Bright (Kitty Bell Bright); and her grandson, Kody A. Bright, who brought her great joy.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 in Forest Chapel Church of the Brethren Cemetery by Chaplain Debbie Brown.
The family invites all who knew Sandra to share memories and celebrate her life.
It is suggested that those desiring make memorial contributions to the Staunton - Augusta Regional SPCA, P.O.Box 2014, Staunton, Virginia 24402.
