Robert Jackson

January 13, 1942 - September 23, 2025

Robert Edward Jackson Sr., 83, passed away peacefully to eternal rest on September 23, 2025 at his residence in Midlothian Virginia.

Robert was born on January 13, 1942 in Charlottesville, VA, to the late John Russell Jackson Sr. and the late Eliza Dickerson Barbour. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John Thomas Jackson, William "Bill" Jackson, Barry Jackson; sisters, Yvonne Jackson, Elizabeth Jackson, Martha Rose, Loretta Barbour and Great Granddaughter, Alivia Navi Ratcliff.

Immediately after graduating from Nelson County Training School, he was drafted into the US Army at the rank of Corporal, where he served as 13A Field Artillery Officer in the Vietnam War. Robert received the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal as well the National Defense Service Medal. Robert was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7814. He was a proud member ofNo. 103 George Mathews Grand Masonic Lodge in California, as well as a member of Union Baptist Church of Afton, VA.

Robert was a HUGE Dallas Cowboys and Brooklyn/LA Dodgers fan. He played baseball on any given Sunday for the team "Avon Wrecking Crew", as catcher, pitcher or an outfielder. His exceptional warmth allowed him to effortlessly connect with others. After meeting him, one felt an immediate sense of comfort, as if they had known him forever. Robert was a man of many trades, carpentry, mechanics and gardening to name a few. He was our personal “Mr. Fix”. He found joy in making many trips to Lowes and Home Depot, being around family andsharing his harvest, were his most cherished passions.

He leaves to cherish his memories:Three children, Loretta Fleming (Michael), Henrico VA, Robert Jackson Jr (Cheryl), Charlottesville VA and Shannon Jackson (Sam), Midlothian VA;Nine Grandchildren, Chyna Fraizer (Michael), Alishia Ratcliff (Travis Sr), LeAnna Henderson, Sky Fleming, Jordyn Fleming, Keone' Chandler. Hayleigh Fleming, Carmelo Camp and Dre Camp.Nine Great-Grandchildren; Mekhi Frazier, Desmond Jackson, MeKhayla Frazier, Malique Frazier, Logan Fleming, Jaxon Walker, Kissiah Ratcliff, Travis Ratcliff Jr and Leiah Walker; God-Daughters, Sonya Sheffie and Angela Chase; Four Brothers, John Jackson Jr (Allene) and Roger Jackson of Waynesboro VA, Daniel Jackson, Richmond VA,; Matthew Barbour(Trina), Scottsville VA.Four Sisters; Annie Meyers, Afton VA; Doretha Brooks and Mozell Henderson of Roanoke VA; Liza Jane Barbour, Charlottesville VA;Sisters-in-Law, Oteila Jackson, Roslyn Hawkins, Sandy Payne and Doris Howard; Brothers-in-Law: John Hawkins Sr; Llyod Payne(Gwen); Gary Payne. Additionally he is survived by Patricia Payne, former spouse and dedicated mother of his children; special nieces, Andrea "Nik-Nik" Jackson and Monica "Moni" Titus; good friend, William Miller and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services, with Military Honors, will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Hebron Baptist Church,66 Tanbark Drive,Afton, VA 22920.
