Merle Elaine (Monroe) Knight

November 2, 1946 - September 17, 2025

Merle Elaine (Monroe) Knight, 78, widow of Charles Edward Knight, Sr., of Staunton, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Augusta Health in Fishersville. 
Mrs. Knight was born in Staunton, Virginia on November 2, 1946, the daughter of the late Chester Lee Monroe and Loraine Isabell (Robertson) Colvin.
Merle was a dedicated and compassionate caregiver, self-employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She loved watching QVC and Hallmark movies, listening to country music—especially Alan Jackson—and spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking for family. Her greatest joy came from being with her grandchildren, and she always enjoyed the quiet company of her beloved dog, Bella. Merle will be remembered for her kindness, love for her family, and the simple things that brought her happiness.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Knight was preceded in death by a step-son, Charles Edward Knight, Jr.; and a brother, Donald Monroe.
Surviving are two daughters, Ann Marie Young and her husband, Bob, and Kathy Jo Knight, both of Staunton; two step-daughters, Mary Alice Seekford of Staunton and Lisa Ann Stacks and her husband, Kevin, of Texas; a brother, James D. Monroe; three grandchildren, Logan Stanley and her husband, Jacob, Dannielle Young and her fiancé, Trevor Widner, and Andrew Young; two great-grandchildren, Braydyn and Landyn Young; her beloved pet dog, “Bella”; and Teresa Hodge, who was considered family and like a daughter to Merle.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Warren Knott.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. 
Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Andrew Young, Trevor Widner, Jacob Stanley, Adam Kesterson, Chip Clagett, and Dustin Cason.
