Roland Eldridge Hammer
Roland Eldridge Hammer, 97, widower of Betty Lou (Sipe) Hammer, of Waynesboro, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at his residence.
Mr. Hammer was born in Elkton, Virginia on September 29, 1927 a son of the late Jesse Edward Hammer and Rosa Dean Hammer.
He served his country proudly in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Roland retired from Crompton and enjoyed farming, fishing, and spending time talking with family and friends. He was a hard worker and will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife of 69 years and his parents, Mr. Hammer was preceded in death by a son, Eddie E. Hammer; eight brothers, John, Bernie, Rodney, Owen, Billy, Wampler, Douglas, and Mensel Hammer; and five sisters, Rosalie Pryce, Janet Roach, Doris Helfrich, Mareta Marshall, and Jetta Raynes.
Surviving is a son, Terry L. Hammer and his wife, JoAnne of Waynesboro; seven grandchildren, Shane Hammer, Brock Hammer, Amanda (Hammer) Austin Madden and her husband, Joe, Ian Hammer and his wife, Meagan, Chad Hammer and his wife, Meredith, Joshua Hammer and his wife, Kelly, Cory Hammer and his wife, Erica; fifteen great-grandchildren, Derrick, Blake and his wife, Kasey, Chase, Shawn, Corwin, Levi, Grady, Leighton, Camden, Lane, Finley, Porter, Casey, Wyatt, Logan, and Peyton; two brothers, Larry and Randy Hammer; two sisters, Wanda Comer and Margie Mayes; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Augusta Memorial Park Pastor Greg Mayo.
Family and friends may pay their respects at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
