Timothy Dewaele

May 16, 1954 - August 20, 2025

Timmy (WhoHa) DeWaele passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on May 16, 1954, in Lawrence, MA, Tim spent his early years in Pelham and Hudson, NH. A job transfer moved his young family to Fishersville, VA in 1988, as well as many friends and coworkers to the Waynesboro area. He later moved to Waynesboro where he resided until his death.

Tim’s greatest pride was his family. His generosity and kindness touched the lives of everyone around him. He loved to spoil his family with their favorite candies and homemade baked goods. He was famous amongst all he knew for his hot pepper relish and salsa. If you mentioned wanting fresh veggies you could expect a hefty bag of whatever he was growing. Whether through lending a helping hand or sharing his time, Tim was always there for his family and friends. His love for gardening, cooking, and baking was only matched by his joy in sharing his creations. Famous for his volume, colorful language and boisterous laugh, Tim’s legacy of generosity, warmth, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He was blessed to spend his last 20 years across the street from his lifelong friend and biggest helper, Ricky Burton. Though separated, Tim and Liz remained close friends, caring for and supporting one another. Tim had a special bond with his close friends, Linda and Paul Jacklin, Mike Evelizer, Frank Maglio, Tommy and Tina Smith, who all knew him as a loyal and caring companion. His friendships were lifelong, and he was always ready with a smile and laugh.

He is survived by his daughters, Audrey DeWaele (Todd) and grandson, Graham of Charlottesville, VA; Alecia Lovci of Jacksonville, AR; sister, Pamela Polowski of Venice, FL; former spouse, Liz Benavitch; niece, Wendy Mazzola, of Nashua, NH.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Helen DeWaele; niece, Nancy Haschak; as well as a roster of friends with personalities as big as his own, including: Kirk Thomason, Kenny Kite, Butch Lessard, and Jack Foley, who will certainly be ready to welcome him for poker and darts on the other side.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, where friends and family will gather to honor Tim’s memory.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Charlton and Groome Funeral Home in Fishersville.
