Dorothy Marie (Fitzgerald) Gilbert

Dorothy Marie (Fitzgerald) Gilbert, 82, wife of Ronald Barry Gilbert, of Staunton, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Augusta Health in Fishersville. 
Mrs. Gilbert was born in Augusta County, Virginia on December 2, 1942, daughter of the late Thurman Lester Fitzgerald and Ethel Mae (Benson) Flickinger. 
Dorothy retired from Western State Hospital, where she worked as a CNA, and was a devoted member of Christ United Methodist Church of Staunton. She adored her grandchildren — from the oldest to the youngest — and cherished time spent with them. Dorothy had a love for travel, especially cruises, and took great joy in flowers and gardening. Wherever she went, she brought laughter, warmth, and a good time.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gilbert was preceded in death by two sisters, Sheila Mae Roberts and Judy Eiline Hughes; and three brothers, Marvin Fitzgerald, Leslie Flickinger, Jr., and Robert “Bobby” Flickinger.
Surviving, in addition to her husband of 63 years, is a son, Ronald Wayne Gilbert of Staunton; a daughter, Karen Kay Varner of Staunton; a sister, Felita Sanchez of Staunton; a brother, James “Jimmy” Flickinger of Stuarts Draft; four grandchildren, Amy Rankin, Ricky Rankin, Caleb Gilbert, and Gracelyn Gilbert; three great-grandchildren, Richard Williams, Blaine Eggleston, and Owen Rankin; and a number of nieces and nephews. 
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2025 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory. 
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at Christ United Methodist Church in Staunton by Pastor Brett Isernhagen.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens. 
Active pallbearers will be Ricky Rankin, Derek Bower, Kevin Lacey, Tyler Mizer, Ron Gilbert, Hunter Hughes, Kirk Propst, and Sam Perkins. 
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
