Shirley Mae (Woods) Thorne

Shirley Mae (Woods) Thorne, 76, widow of Charles Preston “Paw Paw” Thorne, of Staunton, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025 at her residence. 
Mrs. Thorne was born in Augusta County, Virginia on July 23, 1948, a daughter of the late Harry Wallace Woods and Mamie Elizabeth (Benson) Woods. 
Shirley was a member of Arbor Hill Church of the Brethren and was formerly employed by Ruxton Nursing Home. She enjoyed watching soaps and the Hallmark channel, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband of 53 years, Mrs. Thorne was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Woods; and two sisters, Elizabeth Ann (Woods) Puffenbarger and Nellie “Jo” (Woods) Howdyshell.
Surviving, are two sons, Jeffrey Preston Thorne and his wife, Lynne and Michael Lynn Thorne and his wife, Ashley both of Staunton; a brother, Paul Woods and his wife, Melissa of Staunton; a sister, Betty (Woods) Carpenter of Churchville; two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Shirey and Rosa Bosserman and her husband, Ray; two grandchildren, Drake M. Thorne and Kathryn Elizabeth Thorne; one great-granddaughter, Mallory Thorne; four step-grandchildren, Kevin Ooten, Alivia Jemerison, Jaxston Jemerison, and Stephanie Gomez; two step-great-grandchildren, Joseph Valente and Chelsea Valente; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025 in Oaklawn Memory Gardens by Pastor Jack Glover.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the graveside. 
The family would like to express a sincere “Thank you” to the staff at Hospice of the Shenandoah and to Delancia McDaniel for the care and compassion shown to Mrs. Thorne. 
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
