Kenneth "Pete" Daniel Wright

May 28, 1945 - January 9, 2025

Death comes in its own time, in its own way, and is as unique as the individuals experiencing it. Kenneth Daniel “Pete” Wright of Staunton, passed away the evening of Thursday, January 9, 2025 at the age of 79. He was born on May 28, 1945 to Marvin William and Mary Jordan (Romick) Wright in Woodstock, Virginia.
Pete was a United States Army Veteran, having served in Vietnam- awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, a Purple Heart, and three Bronze Stars with valor. Upon his return, he worked at Grant’s Landscaping while attending Blue Ridge Community College, before taking over the business and renaming it Wright’s Landscaping. He then worked for Guy Eavers before becoming a Certified Arborist for VDOT, where he worked until his retirement.
Mr. Wright is survived by his loving, dedicated wife, Douglas Dianne Tucker Wright; three sisters, Margaret A. Cook and Elizabeth M. Lytton, both of Woodstock, and Mary Lou Odum (Fred) of Austinville; four children, Courtney Wright Markham (Christopher), Elizabeth Ashley Wilcher, and Morgan Wright Wodesky, all of Staunton and Daniel Justin Wright (Dillon) of Floyd; and ten grandchildren, Tucker (Sierra), Luken (Mena), Hattie, Holt, Tyler (Taylor), Cruz, Emma, Charley, Leah, and Tristen. He was so proud to have met his first great-grandson, Langston Brooks Wilcher. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Shirley Wright and Barbara Wright of Woodstock, Pamela Wright of Rockingham, Elaine Powell (Sonnie) and Joanne Rush of Mechanicsville, and Janet Allen (David) of Millersville, MD.
He is now reunited in the Kingdom of God with a grandson, William Wright Markham; seven brothers, James (Anna), Richard (Joycie), Marvin, Donald (Rebecca), Gerald, Jack, and Wayne; sisters-in-law, Gail Mayberry (Wayne) and Margaret France (Roy); and brothers-in-law, James Michael Tucker and Allen Cook.
So many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and cousins also blessed his life.
There are so many things we could say about our beloved “Pete” but we feel the following quote by Henry David Thoreau narrowed it down. “I am nothing special, of this I’m sure, I am a common man with common thoughts. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name may soon be forgotten, but I have loved another with all my heart and soul, and to be, this has always been enough…”
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2025 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Taylor Mertins.
The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to a veteran or veteran group of your choice.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
