Lynn Allen
Lynn Ellen Allen, 79 of White Post, VA, passed away at home on October 8, 2024, with her daughters and Raphie the cat by her side.
She was born in Martinsville, Indiana on December 19, 1944, to Orzo Ansil Brown and Virginia (Potter) Brown. She grew up on a farm and helped with raising pigs, growing, and harvesting vegetables. She and her brothers and sisters enjoyed many adventures that accompany life on a farm.
She graduated from Eminence High School in 1962. She kept in touch with her high school classmates and attended class reunions when able.
She attended Olivet Nazarene College, Bethany College and Indiana University. She returned to college later in life and received an associate’s degree from Lord Fairfax Community College in 2001.
She married Gordon Allen on June 2, 1967, in Gosport, IN. They moved to Cochranton, PA in 1971 and raised their family out in the country.
She never worked outside the home while her children were growing up. She was famous for her homemade bread and peanut butter fudge. After moving to Virginia, she worked as a home health caregiver for many years and was very dedicated to her clients. She loved butterflies, hummingbirds and flowers. She enjoyed reading, road trips and studying health and nutrition. She faithfully wrote letters and sent birthday cards to her many family members and friends. She was a member of the Church of the Gospel at Aroda, VA. She attended services and played piano for them as long as she was able.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmom Beatrice (Miles) Brown; sisters Sandra Brown and Marjorie Burris; brothers Phillip Brown and Glen Miles and nephew Sam Miles.
She is survived by the father of her children, Gordon Allen, of Edinburg, VA; her daughters, Monica Dennison and husband Paul of Waynesboro, VA; Rachel Hamman and husband Donnie of White Post, VA; son, Wesley Allen and wife Jean of Harrisonburg, VA; grandsons, Brian Dennison, Elliott Hamman, Adrian Dennison and Phillip Dennison; grand-daughters Dawnette Sulser (Billy), Amber Thompson (Garrett); great-grandchildren Natalie, Ashlynn, Caleb and Carson; are her brothers Don Miles (Mary) of Spartanburg, SC; Gordon Brown (Donna) of Spencer, IN, Kenneth Brown (Sally) of Bloomfield, IN and Joe Brown of Mesa, AZ, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Winchester Medical Center for the excellent care she received during her battle with Covid, Bestcare Home Care for their help with her rehab following Covid, Aveanna Home Health, and all the amazing staff and volunteers at Blue Ridge Hospice.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, October 16, from 6-7pm with a time of sharing from 7-8pm at Stover Funeral Home in Strasburg, VA. A private family service and burial will be held at a later date in Indiana.
