Sophia Muster

January 19, 1948 - October 1, 2024

Sophia Muster, 76, of Staunton, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Perry County, Kentucky on January 19, 1948, a daughter of the late John and Annie Lawson of Hazard, Kentucky.

Sophia work until retirement as a cake decorator with Harris Teeter. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts, decorating her home, going on nature walks, and collecting antiques. Sophia was a very family oriented person who dedicated her life to her daughters and her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She was a very strong person who overcame many obstacles in life. Those obstacles made her honest and direct, but she always knew what she was talking about and under all that toughness she had a heart of gold. She will be dearly missed and always loved by many people.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Blake Hylton and her sister, Connie Lewis.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 34 years, John W. Muster; daughters, Patricia Hughes and (Charlie) of Hazard, Kentucky and Barbara Greenlee (Ray) of Verona; step children: Jennifer Kirkland (Robert) , Jeff Muster (Gina), Michelle Muster, Johnathan Muster(Jessica), and Matt Muster all of North Carolina; grandchildren: Ronnie Noplis, Sophia Noplis, Travis Hylton, Mark Hylton, Brandi Noplis, Trever Kirkland, Tyler Kirkland, Kaitlyn Kirkland, Jacob Muster, Jada Muster, Emma Muster, Leah Muster, Ava Muster, Ivy Muster, and Maddox Muster; great grandchildren: Adelline Flowers, Leonel Hylton, and Easton Blake Kuhns;siblings: Eugene Lawson, Oris Lawson, and Mary Reed all of Hazard, Kentucky; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, specials friends, and neighbors.

Because Sophia’s life touched so many, she will have two memorial services one held on October 26, 2024 at 4pm at the Hazard Kentucky Senior Citizen Center, 354 Perry Park Rd, Hazard, Kentucky, and one held locally on November 3, 2024 from 7pm until 9pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2825 Jefferson Ln, Waynesboro.

A private burial will be held at a later date at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke.
