Wendell Howard Chandler
Wendell Howard Chandler passed away at Sentara hospital on March 12, 2024, following a period of declining health.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Messerley Chandler; daughter Cara Beth Mitchell (Lynn); daughter Julie Byers (Mark); grandson Chandler Byers; and niece and nephews.
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ruby Chandler; sister, Jeanette Yvonne Baugher; brother-in-law, Perry Baugher; and nephew, Ray Baugher.
Wendell retired from Dunham-Bush after 34 years of service. After retirement, he worked part-time at Lowe's and Walmart.
Wendell was a member of Montezuma Church of the Brethren. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved flowers and his pets. He was humorous, generous and kind. He was a people person and loved to joke with his friends, and was devoted to his family.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff for the care and support he received at Life Care Center and Sentara.
Family visitation will be from 10-12 at Johnson Funeral & Cremation Service in Bridgewater on Friday, March 15. Following visitation the service will be officiated by Archie Webster. Interment will be at Beaver Creek Cemetery following the service.
