Garland Lee Shull
Garland Lee Shull, 93, of Bridgewater, passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at Life Care Center in New Market.
He was born on July 19, 1930 at Waggy's Creek, Dayton, Virginia, the son of the late James and Stella (Shank) Shull.
Garland is survived by his wife, Ruth Shull; four children, Susan Huffman, Teresa (Christa Shirey) Shull, Gary Shull, II, Marsha (Jeff) Stonehill; step-son, Curtis (Maria) Taylor; sister, Yvonne (Wayne) Fulk; two grandchildren, Kevin Huffman, Kirt Huffman, two great grandchildren, Lily Long, Ava Huffman; step-grandchildren, Clint (Gabriell) Taylor, Cassie Taylor; step-great-grandchildren, Addison, Lyla, and Conner Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, James Shull and Gary Shull; his sister, Jane Allen; and his son-in-law, Garland Huffman.
Garland worked many years in the auto service sector both as an entrepreneur and with other community service stations and tire service centers. He served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War Conflict. He served as a member of the American Legion Post 27. He served as a member of the Linville-Edom Ruritan Hall where he enjoyed making and serving meals. He was awarded Ruritan of the Year in 2013. He enjoyed playing and calling bingo as part of his community service. He enjoyed attending local lawn parties, gospel music programs, and bus tours to various musicals. No one was a stranger to Garland. He was very social. He was a member of Bethel Church of the Brethren in Keezletown, Virginia. He volunteered in many areas and was very dedicated to his church community. He was a hard worker and always willing to lend a hand.
The family will receive friends between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm on Monday, March 11, 2024 at Johnson Funeral Service and Cremation in Bridgewater. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Bridgewater with Pastor William Staton officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
